The Help! Manual has been updated to cover v5 - help_v5.pdfGood Practice Checksheets
These have been updated to cover v5 Units_of_Sound_Good_Practice_checklists.pdfA report, released by Dyslexia Action on 3rd February 2009, details the success of the national charity’s Partnership for Literacy (P4L) programme, which is designed to identify and support children at risk of reading failure.
The P4L model includes an apprentice-training phase for two school terms, followed by a term of consultancy. Staff are given awareness training on dyslexia and other literacy difficulties, followed by screening and Active Literacy Kit and Units of Sound training. Parents are offered training with the DIY Parents Pack, and encouraged to be involved.
P4L has been predominantly funded by independent donations but ten of the partnerships, beginning in January and September 2008, are being supported through Government funding.
Dyslexia Action is now partnering with a further 14 primary schools and hopes to continue partnering schools into 2010. If you are interested in being one of the schools please contact us.
Shirley Cramer, Chief Executive Officer, concludes: “What sets P4L apart from other intervention models is the whole-school approach. For such a model to be effective, it must be flexible to allow for the school timetable and the individual needs of each school and its children; enabling the school time to embed the training into its teaching. Using shared knowledge and expertise, together with specialist teaching aids, P4L is able to address the needs of children with literacy difficulties, including those with hidden disabilities such as dyslexia.
“We now need to work with Government, local authorities, schools and individual teachers and teaching assistants to maximise the opportunities for every child.”
