Units of Sound Training for Teaching Assistants

A practical course providing a detailed introduction to the Units of Sound programme.

Units of Sound is an effective multimedia programme for the development of reading and spelling for adults and children (from age 8).

Who is it for?
Teaching Assistants

What are the benefits?
The course will enable Teaching Assistants to become confident and competent in using this powerful resource with any student needing help with decoding or spelling.

Course content and structure
This is a practical introduction to the programme and how to use it with students. Participants will be expected to carry out some follow–up work. The course includes:

Effective use of the materials for reading, spelling and writing.

The management and monitoring of students' progress.

Advice on supporting students at the different stages of the programme with reinforcement activities and other multisensory tools.

Support materials.

Candidates are given a half day hands–on training with the Units of Sound materials. This is followed by private study using the training pack. On-line or telephone support is available throughout the course.

The course involves a half day attendance plus approximately 6 hours private study.
