Spelling

The Overlap feature, allowing each page to be worked on twice, is built–in.

First time

•  See the words.

•  Remember any patterns or oddities.

•  Type it in.

As soon as the typing starts the words cannot be reviewed.

Second time

•  Work just from a sound prompt.

The Spelling programme uses the same word blocks and Check–words as the Reading programme, with the addition of Check–spelling. Check–spelling has been used in the Bath Dyslexia Action Centre for a number of years, known as Jan’s words. Jan Randall developed the idea of revisiting 1 word from each of the previous 10 spelling pages in each lesson. The Check–spelling screen forms the final screen of every page except the first five in Stage 1. Ten words are given for spelling but without the "view words" first option and with only one opportunity to mark them. A student must get at least 8 correct for the programme to move on.
